This song was a collaboration with Sydney jazz-trained guitarist Sorcha Albuquerque who has a thirst for experimental elements in music-making. We had a fun day of running her guitar through a bunch of pedals I had collected and then through an Ibanez DM1000 and Space Echo.

Recording the various experiments to tape and then re-tracking them with a mic on a cassette deck’s speaker. This super lo-fi and noisy assortment of sounds were treated as samples and used in the track to create a piece that ended up travelling through some unexpected territories. I tried to allow the song to forge its own path - the arrangement wanders off into some pretty abstract lands, devoid of drums and soaked in tape saturation. It comes back at a point where we think the time passed must be too long for a breakdown and the groove holds us through till the end.

The title actually came from a line in a book by Ben Okri called The Famished Road which explores themes of the spirit world and its role in reality.
